APGM creates a genteel form of family urbanism around the traditions of the golf game. The most maudlin sentiments surround the playing of this game that one learns from one's father. While in Asia and elsewhere, the golf course can sometimes be a feature of an urban park, in America, the surface area of a golf course is homesteading territory. New housing developments feed off of the country club aura. A giganticized version of the Radburn superblock has been put to use to generate large arterials with discrete cul-de sac pods of development. The golf course can gradually be surrounded with lots that continue to grow in value and quickly begin to relieve large debt incurred by land purchases but, unlike a grid they can be gradually phased. Developments managed by Arnold Palmer Golf are the rewards that the privileged give to themselves for bearing the responsibilities of leading a privileged life. | ||
